2022 – a year in review

If you say that right, it even rhymes!

2022, things change, things get back to normal.

About Bikes

MOTOGP! Finally. And the ride there and back was great, and the racing was excellent. I stayed in budget (very important this year). I camped, I had adventures… yup, read the two stories here and here. Was worth the wait. The only thing that didn’t work out was Jack Miller getting taken out by Alec Marquez at the new “Miller Corner”. I do think I will stick to my two year cycle and aim for 2024 for my next ride down. It’s at an awkward time of the year, work wise.

2022 Philip Island -Australian MotoGP

I hit most of the roads I had planned, changed a few over, mostly due to the bad weather.

My first night motocamping.

Otherwise the bike was a garage queen at least by comparison to how it (and my other bikes) have lived. It was lucky if it got a ride to the shops once a week. As the year finishes off, I think I’m in the market for a new battery. Even commuting is off the menu at the moment, as work is only 10mins away and I drop my two kids at school on the way.

I got a new bike… sort of. It was fun to build at any rate.

LEGO’s M1000RR

No bicycle riding to speak of really. Some fitness rides on the commuter.

Enjoying the sunshine and open space…. in the middle of the suburbs?

About Babes

Two girls in high school. Both doing well. One won a State Championship for her gymnastics so really well done there. Next year will be interesting as the other one can start learning to drive!

About Bytes

Nothing hugely dramatic here. My Surface is finally getting used a lot, I use as my school device and it’s been great. Except for a dead TypeCover. Replaced, but I am suspicious of the durability of this part.

I upgraded my iPad Pro 9.7 (v1) to the Pro M1 11”. It has been excellent, really nice jump in performance from my last one. They did eventually release an M2 version as I suspected, but it didn’t get the mini-LED display, so I don’t feel like I missed anything. Its keyboard cover has also deteriorated (common theme this year), there are some places where the soft covering material has worn through. It is still working, but has been put away and hasn’t been replaced.

The new PC has been working fabulously, though I really should step up the graphics card. Otherwise it’s been fast and reliable. I’ve since spent many hours using it for gaming, completing the last 3 Tomb Raiders and spending over 100hours in the Baldur’s Gate 3 pre release.

And I can play BG3 on the Mac too

The iMac also has been going well. It has also recently received a new keyboard, a Logitech MX Keys (not the specific Mac one). I’m really happy with this keyboard too.

Having all these devices has meant all my work is available everywhere. The school mostly uses Google’s environment so that was something to get used to. But with it all in the cloud (along with my OneNote) it’s easy to work anywhere. I also switched over to iCloud Photos and this has been working well too.

D&D has been fun all year. Wild Beyond the Witchlight finished up just a few weeks ago. That was a fun campaign for all. It’s been replaced by a journey in the Dungeon of the Mad Mage, which I am not DM, so currently I am a player in 3 campaigns (Dungeon, Strahd and a face to face home-brew) and not a DM anywhere. It’s so relaxed! Strahd is likely to finish up soon and the DM wants to put us in Spelljammer (D&D in space). I have never played in that environment, so I’m a little unsure. I’m writing my own home-brew adventure for when I get a DM slot again.

About Me.

My offical career change occurred in mid-April (not Christmas as planned), I stayed in order to finalise a couple of medical issues with work. Even though that was the offical date, I was on holidays from that work from Christmas until April and actually working as a teacher full time.

I am enjoying my teaching. My school has a really nice community working environment. There are some challenges, partly due to the children and partly due to my limited experience. However, the school has always been supportive.

The pay is a significant cut from my old pay, at least in these first couple of years. Once I complete my proficiency after two years it will jump up and be a lot closer. I don’t think it will ever surpass it.

To help make up for this, I have secured some part time work in my old career for the school holidays and that will be a nice bonus for me. It’s also a way to stay relevant and connected to that old career in case I am needed.

Next year will see me having my own class, and it looks like it will be a Year 5/6 one. Equally excited and nervous, but everyone at work assures me I will do a great job. That makes me feel very supported, but then also nervous that I don’t want to let them down!

My class, as it was handed to me… a blank slate.

2023, here goes…….

Hey…. Are you in THE FROSTWOLVES?

Here I was about to fight the rat-bunny thing in a LFD run on Dasal, when I get that in party chat… I thought they were asking if I was in the Orc clan Frostwolves, you know the one in the new expac, like maybe I was a dev or something?

“My guild has been called that for about 8 years” I answered. I figured that would make it clear I wasn’t a dev, but maybe if they had heard of the guild make it also clear I wasn’t in a copycat guild or something (is that even possible). Come on, I’m not on the raid team in the Frosties, whoever would have heard of me.

“OMG I love the blog!”

Ha ha, now I knew what was going on. I had met a fan of Navi’s blog,

“Navi, I’ve met a fan of your’s” I posted in gchat.

So the fight was a bit rough as we attempted to fight, not die and also figure out what we were talking about. In the end I promised to hang about after the fight for pics.

The run had been interesting already, as the first healer had left and Dasal tried to take up the slack while still in Shadow spec. I do have Holy spec but I haven’t sorted out the buttons since I changed the UI. I managed to heal through the first boss, the big Hozen, but failed miserably on the rat-bunny. Too many other people getting damaged (like me). We died.

Then just as a new healer arrived the above conversation started.

Totemic was pretty excited to meet a guildie of Navi, She credits Navi with getting her into blogging. She even reads this blog mentioning a the previous post “Weak Spot in the Clouds” which to be honest I didn’t remember writing. Just checked now, it was only 5 posts again… oh dear my memory! (Hey Totemic, if you read this, there’s a vid on Youtube to match that post) [Yeah, that’s a subtle way to get more views, lol]

Oh, glad I took a picture too 🙂

Totemic

And I promised to let Navi know and said goodnight after I found her blog. I like her guild name too, <Potential Unleashed>. It was also interesting to see an Elemental specced Shammy at work after so long running Mabaho as Enhance.

Oh, Dasal is 87 now. Not far to go.

\o still here

heroesA bunch of dad things have kept me off the computer so not much gaming going on – in fact I don’t think I’ve played since my last post. I did travel the other week and discovered that my Borderlands Save game is stored locally, not on the server. I didn’t feel like starting a new character so that didn’t work out.

My friend passed the old Heroes show to me. I remember watching some of it years ago, I thought I had watched a fair bit. Turns out I watched half of season one, and the first episode of two.

Been engrossed in that in my spare down time – that means less to talk about on here. Sorry 🙂

But where’s the games….

I was going to start with “I’m Sorry”, but then I realised that I do have bikes in the title, and I did warn you all that BBB might not just cover bytes so I shouldn’t be sorry.
broken-imac

But yes there has been a decided lack of game talk here the past few entries. I’m not really playing much at the moment. I still have Tomb Raider in the PS3 drive but mostly been watching recorded TV off the PlayTV. On the computer I’ve been messing about with iMovie and making videos for my YouTube channel.

I’ve been reading a bit as well, catching up on a few authors that have released new books.

I’m also trying to find a game to play on the Mac that I feel like sticking with. I tried Mechwarrior Tactics and it wasn’t bad, much more like playing the old tabletop. Another I tried is KSP, its a space rocket build and fly simulator that some guys at work are doing some crazy things with.

In summary, I’m just doing other things at the moment. And this blog is what I’m doing at the moment, so for a bit, you’re stuck with bike posts 🙂

Odd Postings

Ok I’ve recently gone through and added a bunch of posts from my other blog into this blog. I have set the publish date to correspond so that they fit in properly. This has meant, like tonight as I finish off a couple more, my poor subscribers get messages of new posts that are really old. Tonight’s post was from 2007!

Sorry about that, there should only be about one more to go, I go riding “with” Charlie Boorman of Long Way Round fame (with Ewan McGregor).

One Year of WordPress

WordPress tells me its twelve months since I registered this blog. While that’s not the first anniversary of this blog (it started in October the year before) it’s still a milestone.

BBB has seen some changes in that time. From a blog focused on WoW pretty exclusively, it has broadened somewhat with some bike stuff, some home stuff and random other things. It even became a travel blog for three weeks!

WoW has disappeared in that time and the expected rise of MWO didn’t occur. It’s actually turned in to a general gaming blog, covering all sorts of games. I know the change dramatically affected my already small readership. Not sure there is a big blogging community in MWO. Actually I never checked youtube… I still have some faithful readers, and I’m sure there are a few lurkers out there (hi!). I’m glad you find something of interest here 🙂

Odd things I’ve noticed… my post on the Razer Naga scores a lot of hits through Google searches of Naga reviews. Followed by this post on real life (I think the picture gets the hits actually) and then my car mechanic success story but that’s probably the picture too.

I’ve found a bunch of interesting people out there in the interwebs. I’ve reconnected with an RL friend too. Most of all I’ve found it a nice place to get my thoughts down. So thanks for everyone’s comments and thanks to all the readers out there.

And if Navi comments, I have to respond so I can stay ahead of her in the comment count on my blog than me (wave at Navi!)…. ;-P

Gizoogle…. (some language may offend)

Here’s something random I found..

Gizoogle.net   A website that among other things, can translate webpages into gangsta speak.  Here’s a sample from the Mechwarrior post I just made..

To mah crazy ass tha game was at its peak just before they removed knockdowns. From dat patch onwardz tha pimpers have steadily added complexitizzle without balizzle n’ have introduced bugs andz instabilitizzles tha fuck into partz of tha game dat was hittin dat shizzle fine. Even bugs dat should done been obvious from even a lil’ small-ass amount of play testin (the screw up wit missile damage when Artemis was introduced fo’ example) before bustin it on tha Beta servers…. one assumes they have they own internal test servers….. assumes…

ECM, by all accounts is straight-up messin wit tha game. It didn’t have ta be yo, but they’ve juiced it up a must have fo’ everyone, limitin yo’ mech chizzlez if you wanna have any real chizzle of bustin well up in a match. There is no reliable way fo’ big-ass mechs ta combat lil’ small-ass mechs without knockdowns (in tabletop you could even fall if you turned whilst hustlin, now you won’t fall if a mech charges tha fuck into you). They is havin a shitload of problems wit lag n’ rubber bandin (I remember mah duel wit a light I be thinkin I discussed up in another post).

Use in moderation 🙂

I’ve got Spam

I’m sure you all have a spam inbox full of messages from casinos and other really great stuff (lol). Being a new blog I have only had a couple until I posted about the Razer Naga. That’s gotten me 10 spams so far, I wonder what got the robots going on that one. I especially like the one that said it was a great review about womens sports shoes and then linked to a casino!

I don’t have any interesting searches yet 😦

Reborn

My first version of this blog filled the tiny allocation from my service provider, so I’ve had to find somewhere else to put this. Sadly in the mess of resolving the previous problems I have lost most of the old posts. I realise that it was only about 20 entries, and only a few months, but there was a little bit of interesting stuff there.

So bear with me and this blogs plain start. I will work on some graphics to personalise the place up over the weekend.
