Plugging away at the questing tonight. It is interesting seeing the differences between Outlands and Dreanor. The destruction (I assume it was something the Dark Portal or whatever) was pretty massive.
Looks like the Spires of Arak (sp?) disappeared altogether. Obvously, Zanger Sea became the Marsh. Frost ridge became Blade’s Edge etc. Arch and Shat look pretty impressive. Haven’t got into either though.
These guys are pretty cool looking. Their animation is nice too.
So I managed about 25% into 95.
Then it’s back to the Garrison to be ready for tomorrow.
94! And I got this leather thing working now too. Just gotta Pokemon some more Clefthoof!
So time to do some questing…. I am actually finding that this Garrison thing is slowing even my usual glacial levelling – I keep having to return there to park Mabaho for the evening.
So I followed some of the quests from within the Garrison. These had me headed to Talador. Looks like I’ve levelled past Gorgrond already.
The time also meant a chance to LFG, so after about 20 mins one popped. Iron Docks. First time here and seemed like I was on the lower end of the scale so I picked up some good gear here. Added to the gear from my Followers, it’s going well.
Out of the dungeon it was time to hand in some quests around Talador.
Before it was time to head back to the Garrison to set it up for the weekend work.
After the mail and leather working revelation last week I was busy out in the back of the garrison trying to trap some clefthoof. I spent quite a while laying the traps and working the beasts into them. Nothing worked.
A read of Icy Veins, I needed to watch out for walking on the trap.
A pile more clefthoof fell without success.
“Guildies help!” More tips, and it turns out that the clefthoof that are right behind the garrison aren’t trappable. Of course, because that would be too easy 😦
The guildies also mentioned a bunch up by the ogre castle so off I headed.
This worked a lot better, though it wasn’t always a sure thing. Ghost Wolf came in handy for manoeuvring about the trap and the mob, and soon I had a bunch of Leathery Caged somethings. I’ll see how this goes for the next stage.
Though I think I have to replace something in the Garrison as I don’t have a Leather Worker.
Might get rid of the Enchanter’s, Dasal might be able to do that later anyway.
Mabaho finished the set piece at the end of Frostier Ridge which sees the pass closed by the shaman. Here I picked a new follower, choosing Lokra in order to get the Danger Zone counter.
So a day or so later I set out to find Gorgrond. Initially I headed up to the pass area, but couldn’t find a way through. So I headed to the east of Frostfire and prowled along the cliff tops. These generally turned me about so I would head south.
I spied a path down to the water below and followed it. Without any other options, but certain I had missed something, I cast Water Walking and headed out across the Zanger Sea (which we all know as the Zanger Marsh of course) I know its the wrong way as Blizzard would not have forced other toons across here.
I did have flash backs to some of my very early adventures in Vanilla when I headed of on some exploring (usually ending up in a very high level zone and getting pounded!). So that was cool.
Mabaho wandered up the path ways, avoiding most mobs, but did have to fight through a village at one point. Luckily at 93, Mabaho was the right level.
Eventually I found Durotan (and the guild suggested there was a tunnel through the caved in pass – still haven’t found that)
I’ve established a Lumber Mill here and have a flypath so I might not bother looking for the pass.
After that it was back to the Garrison to collect and task Mabaho’s troops and workers. I prefer to log out here as it means if I have a few minutes I can log in quickly, task or collect and log out.
I also got two followers up to 100 tonight. Must get out there and recruit some more.
I haven’t been sitting idle, now that I am on my own in Canberra again during the week. I got Mabaho out questing. Found a couple of rares.
Levelled up the Town Hall in my Garrison. That opened up a couple of plots for me.
I also recruited a couple more followers, so I am up to five. I need to level these new two up as the others are at 93/94 already.
Out questing I did see this ogre. It took a second or two to realise what was going on. I had thought he was sleeping on his back but he was moving…
Watching for a moment…. he’s doing sit ups (crunches). A “helpful” guildie suggested doing push ups next to him, but I couldn’t find the command (wink), it was probably /gquit.
Lastly, for a good chunk of today’s questing I had company. Frost wolves – hunt in packs (like other wolves)
Here is me, my doggies (the Spirit Wolves), the Frostwolf that aids me randomly as I am a Wolf Brother, and two orcs (whose names I forget) and one of their wolves. You mess with me you get the whole pack 😉 Grrr….
While I haven’t put any serious effort into playing over the past few weeks, I have at least been logging in occasionally in order to empty my Garrison resources cache. But tonight when I logged in I actually headed off to do a little questing.
Running the first couple of quests from the garrison I was out exploring the neighbourhood. I convinced an ogre trader into the garrison whilst out looking for a scary looking one eyed dude. I also ran into what I think is my first WoD rare.
Took about three goes to kill him as he would tunnel under the ground and head off elsewhere. The first two attempts I couldn’t find him on the second time he tunnelled off and he would reset.
I completed the quests and returned to my Garrison and built my first building, the Barracks. When I clicked on something in front of it to “Finalise your Building” (I think because it was part of a quest they gave me an option to instant build it) The building flashed up but I was transported out of the garrison. At first it wasn’t clear if I was near or far from my place, but turned out I was only nearby. Not sure what the point of that was.
Now I have a quest to rescue my first Follower. I still won’t get much play time until probably after New Years due to family commitments. But I’ll log in and clear that cache…
I suppose one advantage of being off the computer and hence WoW is that I have been avoiding all of this DDOS and connection issues that seem to have come up. But I pretty frustrated, I was planning for Mabaho to be well in the thick of levelling (likely done by now) and in the dungeons etc, but alas, he still sits about at 90.
I’ve gotten him as far as starting his garrison.
Magdasal is worse, stranded just after the Dark Portal collapsed.
In the downtime, I’ve been tossing about the idea in my head of running a second guild raiding team. I know I’ll have to talk through it carefully with the Guild Leader (waves sheepishly at Navi – I know she has different position on the idea). Sure part of the motivation is selfish, it’s a vehicle for me to get into raiding because playing together is the whole reason I play WoW.
The idea would not to steal folks (not even their alts) from the main team, and not compete with them for resources (players, guild donations etc). And I think this is the tough point for the whole idea…. not to affect the other team, and not to create any tension between them.
But I also know our guild has grown a bit recently and I’m sure I can round up 10 or so others to set up a second team to no detriment to the core (and even the sometimes) raiders, not even a B team – more like your local work footy side vs the Super 14s pro side. It might even have a limited lifespan, say 12 months (which will be when I move back to Sydney). Anyway, I’ll talk to Navi about it and see if we can set some ground rules for the idea. (and here she is forewarned?)
But certainly not going to do anything until I get to 100 on at least one toon. I might push Magdasal up to heal on (or switch Mabaho to Resto – did I just write that???)
Seems like many of the blogs I read have gone a bit quiet. I did expect more WoD posts from them but I guess many are racing to 100 not posting.
My own WoD experience has been so far very small. I logged in the first night and Mabaho started through the Portal. This was during the whole “I can’t get my Garrison”‘period and I was just sitting there amazed people were already up to that! I played for about an hour before knocking off.
Early the next morning I logged Magdasal in to find the steps of the Portal empty of toons. This made things hard for her but I got her started as well.
Niether toon is even up to 91 yet and I see the Frosties already have at least one 100 already, even with all the apparent login dramas. Great work.
I’m still at home recovering so am playing on the PC which isn’t as well set up (and I don’t have my Naga). It also means that all the usual family distractions are there, hence my leveling is so slow. I still have two weeks at home so I’ll be behind yet again.
I’ve liked it so far, though I’m still running everywhere with Khadgar, which I assume stops at some point. It’s a bit of whirlwind really.
